The process of becoming a SELF Volunteer:
1. Fill out the online application below, making sure to note what position(s) you are interested in working.
2. Receive a welcome email with a registration code.
3. Use the code to return to the website and register.
4. On May 27th, 2025 you will receive a link to sign up for your schedule
5. Sign up for the hours you opted to work (4, 8, or 12) before scheduling closes at midnight on
June 1st , 2025.
6. Attend one mandatory training presentation per position you have chosen.
7. We will confirm you are scheduled for the right number of hours and send your final schedule via email by June 6th, 2025.
8. Sign in and out for your shifts at the event.

Volunteer Discounts:
Volunteer discounts are based on a Weekend Package. However, volunteers are still eligible to purchase add-ons during registration. Please make sure any shifts you sign up to work do not conflict with any add-on you purchase.
- 4 Volunteer Hours = 25% discount off the Basic Weekend Package price on the date of registration.
- 8 Volunteer Hours = 50% discount off the Basic Weekend Package price on the date of registration.
- 12 Volunteer Hours = 100% discount off the Basic Weekend Package price on the date of registration.
**This does not apply to yearly opening kickoff discounted pricing**
Regular cancellation policies apply to volunteers.
Volunteer Positions Available:
Curtain Monitors - These Volunteers will be placed at curtain checkpoints to check badges in order to ensure attendees are registered. They also regularly communicate with Security and Volunteer Assistants to help maintain the event.
Runners - These Volunteers will sit at the Volunteer table and be used as needed to give breaks, run errands, and assist with anything needed by the Volunteer coordinator and Assistants.
Volunteer Table - These volunteers assist with getting people signed into or out of their volunteer shifts. Volunteers in this area must be customer service oriented, polite, and able to multitask. They will need to be able to handle constant communication with the volunteer assistants and Cynthia. There are a limited number of spaces available.
Changeover - These volunteers will assist in the movement of chairs, supplies, and other equipment. The ability to lift is required. These shifts often happen between events or classes.
Registration - These volunteers assist Jack with managing registration tasks. Tasks could include crowd control, handing out clipboards and water, or assisting those who need accommodations. These positions are limited and most of them are on Thursday afternoon/evening.
Information Table - These volunteers are responsible for helping attendees get answers to their questions. They need to be able to respond to questions regarding the layout of the hotel, where and when classes are taking place, where registration is, class cancellations, and general knowledge questions. You must be able to use YAPP, read and interpret a hotel layout diagram, and understand a weekend schedule in grid form. Must also be able to use a two-way radio. This table will also hold lost and found items.
Specialty Teams:
Medical - This Volunteer team will assist with evaluation and assistance with medical issues. At a minimum these Volunteers must have a current CPR and First Aid certification. Please upload credentials along with your submission.
Security - This Volunteer team will monitor the event to assist the Volunteer Coordinator and Security Team Leads with maintaining a space consistent with SELF policies and regulations. Must be able to be on your feet and/or walk for 4-6 hour shifts. Previous and/or current security experience is a plus. You will need to be able to attend an additional training session onsite Thursday morning, and have at least one shift between the hours of 8pm-2am will be required.
Workshops - This Volunteer team is responsible for delivery and pick up of supplies to all classrooms, ensuring presenters have what they need on the ground, providing reminders as needed, recording class counts, ensuring rooms are set to specifications, and handing out goodie bags, etc.
Load In/Load Out - This Volunteer team will work Wed/Thurs and Sunday. These volunteers must be capable of heavy lifting and working 6-hour shifts. These volunteers are split into several different types:
- The onsite team is a team of 6 that will start early Thursday morning to unload and distribute supplies at the hotel. They will return early Sunday morning to pack up supplies.
- The vendor team will be a team of 4-6 people who work to help vendors unload and set up early on Thursday. They will return to help break down and load out on Sunday midday. More informaiton will be provided as we get closer to event.
- The play space team is a team of 4 that will work with Sadistic Engineering to unload and assemble their equipment early on Thursday. They will return to break down and load out early on Sunday.
Weekend Commitment Volunteers assume specific positions and limited slots are available. Only die-hard volunteers that intend to return yearly in this capacity need apply. These positions will work more than 12 hours and will need to commit to multiple meetings leading up to the event and a post event meeting to discuss how to improve the experience for others in the future. If you are interested in one of these positions, please note this on your submission.
