We often say things like “don’t yuck someone else’s yum”, “your kink is not my kink and that’s okay”, and “keep an open mind”. But even within kink spaces some practices get side-eyed, labeled taboo, too dangerous, or not acceptable under any circumstances. Some are given special names to distinguish them from their “less controversial” cousins. And some come with a red flag that sparks concern, even among seasoned players. In this roundtable-style class, we’ll examine some of these kinks and ask broader, community-focused questions like: Why is it taboo? Is “it” even a legitimate kink? How can we differentiate healthy practitioners and those using kink as a smokescreen? Where’s the line—and is there even one at all?
