1 Volunteer Assistant position open starting 2027 - Volunteer Assistants are vital to the event running smoothly. They work with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure the volunteers are trained, signed in/out, and are where they should be doing the intended job. They assist in crowd control and coordination in the event of an emergency. Prior to the event, a volunteer assistant needs to be available to attend planning meetings and assist in preparing materials for the event. Meetings are held once every 4 weeks throughout the year, and every 2 weeks in the 3 months immediately proceeding the event. They will also need to assist in running trainings for volunteers in the 2 weeks prior to SELF. During the weekend (Thurs- Sunday) Volunteer Assistants work around 20 hours, roughly 5 hours per day Thurs- Sat and 4 hours on Sunday. There is also a follow up meeting 1 week post event. This position is heavy on computer work in Excel and Word, so proficiency in both is a must. Communication with the volunteers is vital to keeping the event moving and fun while also getting things done, so the ideal candidate is an efficient communicator.
Supply Assistant starting july 2026 - is a year-round volunteer position ideal for someone based in Atlanta or the surrounding area. This role requires strong organizational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Excel (with access to the software), and the ability to maintain and digitally manage a detailed inventory system and other subsystems. Being able to take and manager photos is also a must. This position is responsible for compiling and organizing supply data—often received in parts—into clear, usable lists. Responsibilities include checking incoming packages, placing them into the appropriate storage tubs in Atlanta (3 to 5 times per year), and ensuring the inventory is updated accordingly. In April, the Supply Assistant provides finalized inventory lists to the on-site Supply Manager to support efficient supply delivery during the event weekend. Strong attention to detail, the ability to follow established systems, and a collaborative team spirit are essential for success in this role. Annual system turnover is required each July. Most of the work is done pre-event.
2-3 members for SELF Incident Assessment Team (SIAT) are responsible for reviewing and assessing Incident of Concern reports to determine appropriate outcomes, including potential removal from roles, denial of entry, or other participation restrictions. SIAT ensures that all reports related to safety, consent, and conduct are documented, evaluated objectively, and handled in accordance with established policies and procedures.
SIAT members maintain strict confidentiality, manage secure records, and may conduct follow-up to gather additional information or clarification needed for review. The team relies on complete, specific, and actionable reports to support fair and consistent decision-making and does not mediate interpersonal disputes or facilitate apologies.
This role requires discretion, neutrality, and strong fact-based assessment skills. Ideal candidates possess the ability to be active listeners, critical thinkers, possess strong emotional intelligence, with the ability to evaluate information objectively, recognize bias, and navigate sensitive situations with professionalism and care.
