Leather Leadership by Master J. Tebias and Empress Jessica Akanke

Friday, June 12 · 11:15 AM–12:30 PM
ATL 4 · Workshop/Class

This class examines leadership within Leather communities through the lens of legacy, accountability, and succession. Grounded in the framework and themes of Master J. Tebias’s book on Leather leadership and legacy, the session explores how leadership is formed, sustained, and, too often, undermined when succession planning is absent or unclear.

Drawing from lived experience, community history, and ongoing dialogue, this session looks closely at gatekeeping, the difference between title and trust, and the reality that leadership is not self-appointed—it is affirmed by the community over time. Participants will be invited to consider how leaders are cultivated, how power is transferred responsibly, and what it means to steward a legacy rather than simply hold a role.

This class is designed for those who hold leadership positions, aspire to leadership, or care deeply about the long-term health of Leather communities, particularly during periods of growth, change, and generational transition.
